Volunteers

Parent volunteers run the Montclair Soccer Club, serving about 1300 players from more than 900 families. To enable the Montclair Soccer Club to continue to flourish, we have revamped our volunteer policy to engage every family in the Club. If you have a child playing in the Club, you are required to volunteer - or to "buy out" your volunteer obligation.  Please have a look at the volunteer policy for details.

In 2008 we took steps to increase volunteer participation to improve the sports experience for our kids. As a result, we got more families involved and accomplished some great things, like improvements to Shepherd Canyon field and the launch of our new wiki to capture knowledge from our parents, coaches, and referees. We've been listening to your feedback about volunteering. We've heard you want things faster, simpler, and easier! We updated our volunteer program this year based on this feedback.

Beginning Spring 2009 each family will make a $60 volunteer deposit at registration for the 2009-2010 seasons. Your volunteer deposit will be refunded after you've fulfilled your volunteer requirement. The volunteer deposit is per family, not per child. U6 families without older siblings in the Club are exempt from the volunteer deposit. Volunteering options:

  • You Pick - see http://montclairsoccer.pbwiki.com/Volunteers+-+Help+Wanted to fulfill for 4 hours of volunteering.
  • Big 7 Job: coach, assistant coach, team manager, referee, team volunteer coordinator, field champion, PCA culture keeper (see below).
  • Clippers teams - In addition to the Big 7 Jobs above, there are 3 additional jobs: Clippers team tournament coordinator, Clippers registration coordinator, Clippers program volunteer.
  • Club Leadership - Board member, Club officers, age coordinators, or other Club leadership jobs. Club officers select their practice days/times prior to general practice field assignment. If you have a tight schedule, this perk alone may be worth volunteering as a club officer. We have 2 positions open immediately: Fields Director, Secretary.
  • Buy Out - Families can opt to not volunteer and relinquish the volunteer deposit. Families that do not fulfill their volunteer requirement before next year's annual registration (March 2010) will automatically relinquish the volunteer deposit.

Each team must fill 7 key positions (the Big 7)

Note: Clippers teams have 3 additional positions

  1. Head Coach
  2. Active Assistant Coach
  3. Referee
  4. Team Volunteer Coordinator
  5. Team Manager
  6. PCA Culture Keeper
  7. Fields Champion
  8. Clippers Team Registration Coordinator (one per team)
  9. Clippers Team Tournament Coordinator (one per team)

What's the easiest way to earn volunteer hours?  Attend Board Meetings!  You'll receive volunteer hours for attending. (Check the calendar for the schedule.)
