Volunteers - Equipment Manager by Age Group

Page history last edited by volunteers@... 1 yr ago

The Equipment Manager for a given age group retrieves soccer uniforms/equipment from the soccer equipment shed at Shepherd Canyon for coaches/teams in that age group in need of those items. Equipment typically includes: goalie shirts and gloves, balls, ball bag, coach bag, first aid kit, ice packs, and pinnies.  Uniform pieces include:  jerseys, shorts, and socks.

Responsibilities

  • Distributing soccer equipment and uniforms to the teams of your specific age group.  This is done on “Open Shed” days or at a time you set up with a coach or team representative.
  • Placing returned items in their specified locations.

Time Commitment

This job requires 10-20 hours prior to and at the beginning of the fall soccer season and about 1-2 hours at the beginning of the spring soccer season, depending on the need for equipment for newly formed teams.

Required Experience

Schedule

The "Open Shed" days are scheduled by the Equipment Coordinator and typically take place before the start of the Fall season.

The Equipment Coordinator sends out an email to all coaches and Age Group Equipment Managers informing them of the Open Shed day.

Location

Coordinate via email from anywhere and then distribute from the equipment shed, which is located at the end of the Shepherd Canyon field nearest the fire station.

Minimum Term

As long as you like!

Detailed Instructions

  1. Prior to the start of the fall soccer season, the equipment coordinator sets up two to three “Open Shed” equipment days.
  2. On these days the coach, or a team representative, comes to the equipment shed at Shepherd Canyon to pick up equipment and/or uniforms for their soccer team.
  3. These “Open Shed” days are also used to accept jerseys that are being returned.
  4. As an age specific equipment manager, you are not required to be at the “open shed” days, but it is really helpful if you can be there. You can also recruit other teammates or MSC parents to help out at Open Shed days, as there are many teams getting gear in a short space of time.
  5. It is a little crazy when coaches/team representatives arrive to pick up their uniforms/equipment. (Might as well be honest about it!)
  6. Using a list of typical equipment needed for your age group, you help the coaches figure out what they have and what they need.
  7. You try to keep the coach out of the shed, since YOU have learned where stuff is. So you fetch it out and collect back from the coach anything he no longer needs.
  8. The shed is typically open for 3 hours.
  9. Because these Open Shed days typically occur during the summer, Age Group Equipment Managers AND coaches may be out of town during the first one or two Open Shed dates. Can't be helped!
  10. If this is the case for you or any of your coaches, you will need to arrange to meet coaches/team representatives at the shed to make exchanges for those who could not make the “Open Shed” days.
  11. If you need to schedule a time to meet a coach at the shed, let all the other age group equipment managers know - they probably have one or more coaches that need stuff too. Collaboration helps everyone!

Thank you so much for all you've done for MSC, Susan and Soora!
